Assessment of our saving goals of 2020 and new goals for 2021

Source: Media from Wix

In the beginning of the year, I wrote down our saving goals. How did we do with it?

- House: set aside 50 euros per month and make a couple of extra payments for our mortgage. Done! We made two extra payments, partially with the money set aside and partially from the tax returns.

- Car: we transfer 20 euros over automatically and more based on our monthly expenses. Done! We set aside more than planned, we have the money for the car.

- Child's future: we set aside 100 euros every month and transfer this to her saving account. Partially done. Some months, we put aside 100 euros, some months less. We did transfer her child's benefit from the government to the account.

- Pay for the health insurance of 2021 in one go to save 1-2% from the payment. Done!

- Robot vacuum cleaner: we set aside 50 euros monthly and buy this machine. Partially done. We put the money aside and bought a second hand robot vacuum cleaner. But as we were not happy with it, we resold it (with a little bit of a profit). Probably we should buy a more expensive model which's work quality would be better. This is not our priority at the moment.

- Dryer: we want to set 50 euros aside monthly. Not done. My husband is against the dryer and although I've made a saving goal in our saving account, I haven't transferred any money there.

What do we want to achieve in 2021?

- House: to continue putting 50 euros aside per month and to make one extra payment of the mortgage.

- Child's future: to transfer 20 euros per month and the child's benefit per quarter to her saving account.

- Car: to buy a car in Feb-March and inform us about the costs relating to the purchase and up-keeping of it. Try to limit the costs within reason.

- Child's monthly costs: to stay within my set limit (20 euros + the money I get from selling her used things) regarding the non-essential items of hers. When I do purchase things for her, I try to pick items with good quality, that are made in good working conditions and suitable for reselling.

- Food: I would like to order groceries regularly to save time and not set ourselves in danger of contracting corona.

- To assess our spendings and income every month and be honest to ourselves. It doesn't make you happy if you limit all your costs but it doesn't work if you spend too much either.

- I will try to think of things in terms of Need and Want. The latter category can wait :-)
