M at 28 months

Updated: Aug 27, 2022

We have just returned from our big trip to Canada (read about this here) and it is already time for another review.

Important

- M can now count from 1 to 5 in English.

- She knows primary colors and pink in Estonian (and mostly in English) and can match them all.

- Is interested in letters (mainly of her own name), but doesn't recognize them yet.

- M can walk the stairs by herself, also without the railing when going up (learned it at 27 months when we were on holiday and just kept practicing!)

- Has a 2-wheeler walking bike now but quite yet hasn't figured it out, but she can use her scooter very well!

- Right now she is interested in: trains, planes, and Moomins.

- First she was scared of snakes, that has passed now. A couple of days ago, we were looking at a Moomin book and there she said to be scared of Stinky. She brought it up at night again and in the morning, she pointed to it and said "Äla karda!" (meaning, don't be scared).

Language development

Language development has been huge over the holiday. She learned so much English that it is hard to keep track of for writing it down. She will say words like "motorhome" or "apple sauce", many holiday-related words all in all. Her Estonian has benefited greatly from me being off work as well. And we learned that she knows some Dutch words we didn't know she knows (like "lekker" meaning "tasty"). Spending time with your child 24/7 is challenging but great and rewarding. M will say 4-words sentences now (the first being "onu Ada trakto(r) sõida", meaning that uncle Adam drives a tractor). As mentioned earlier, she has mastered the colors and knows how to count from one to five. She LOVES having been read books to and sometimes she will "read" you some books as well. One evening, she was reading her fluffy moose some books. It went like this: "Põder, sit! Book!"

Sleep

During the holiday she got less sleep at night due to her bedtime being later. At first, she was sleeping during all of the car rides (and there were many), but in the last weeks of the holiday, she caught up less. She has been catching up on sleep the last week we have been home, only waking up around 8:30 to 9 AM in the morning. We did all have corona as well though, so this might be of influence as well.

Eating

M did great with eating when on holiday, really willing to try a lot of the foods. She got more sugar and other snacky foods than I would like, so it is really time to get back on track!

Challenges

- We started with potty training 2 days ago and really want to push through. So tired of diapers. She will herself say "No diaper!" and is very proud of being able to climb on the big potty!

M wears size 86 now, I'm only buying clothes from size 98 now, so they last longer. I really see that she is in one size for half a year now. Some clothes I bought last summer, she can still wear this summer and that is a welcomed change!
