Our daughter is 8 months!

Important events

This month, M's grandparents returned home and she went to daycare. This was three weeks ago but she has only been at daycare for two weeks because she fell ill at the end of the first week and needed to stay home. Just a couple of days ago, she came down with a fever again and it's still there.

Apart from the illnesses, M has adjusted well at daycare. She is happy, sleeps and eats well. Actually, the daycares are closed due to lockdown but as essential personnel, we can take our child in.

Eating

M's main nutrition still comes from milk (breastmilk + formula). She gets solids three-four times a day. In the morning she eats porridge (with a spoon on her own), during lunchtime a piece of bread and dinner in the evening. I would like her to start eating the same meals as we do for dinner but sadly it hasn't worked out now, so she gets some fruits and vegetables or store-bought puree. Once I offered rice with chilli, but she wasn't a fan.

At daycare she gets a little snack around 3 pm, usually, it's a rice cracker, corn puff or some fruit.

M's favourite foods are kiwi, pancakes and porridge. She also enjoys purees, probably because they are easy to eat.

Sleeping

She still mostly has two naps a day. When the naps are shorter, she has a little power nap in the afternoon. Usually, she doesn't eat over the nighttime, but she wakes up when she has lost her pacifier which then needs to be reinserted.

Last night she slept 12 hours in a row! What a night! I hope that it means that she won't need the dream feed at 22:30 soon any more.

We are actively working on letting her fall asleep on her own. After the sleep ritual, we leave the room and then it takes her any time from a couple of minutes to 45 minutes to fall asleep. She chats with her bunny, passes her pacifier from one hand to another and makes all kinds of funny sounds. At times we still need to help her fall asleep.

Favourite activities

Her favourite activity is dragging herself over the floor (read: scoot). While she does that, she also puts everything possible in her mouth so we have blocked the cat litter boxes and we try to hide all the cords.

Aside from that, she likes to look at herself from a mirror. Isn't that a very cute baby there?

Schedule

6:45/7:00 morning wake up, breast milk, change and new clothes (during the workweek, M's dad takes her over then)

7:30 breakfast: porridge + formula (90+3)

8:30 Mon to Thur she goes to daycare then

9:00 the first nap

10:30 wake up

Statistics

M sleeps about 15 h a day. She is slowly growing out of her clothes and moving towards size 74. She is still quite skinny, so that many clothes are wide for her, especially when she wears regular throw-away diapers.
