Little O is already 5 months old and time seems to be just flying by! In conclusion, this was a little bit of an easier month, as he started feeding a bit better and by the end of the month, there was some improvement in sleeping as well.
Development
Learned to grab things (just after turning 4 months), he still needs to bring his arms out and then close them slowly. Grabs on tp his Oball, rattle and teething rings.
Spends most of the time on the ground and can still entertain himself for 45-60 minutes
Drools a lot, 18-3 first tooth tip peeking out, bottom left in the middle! Didn´t have any fever or fussiness with this. Puts everything in his mouth!
15-3 started rolling to his side, wants to roll over but can't yet.
12-3 learned to screech loudly and happily.
Went baby swimming for a couple of times. He is still not sure what to make of it.
Went to the Ikea with him, he looks his eyes out and is very overwhelmed.
Went to Pantropica and this was a full sensory overload for him, as he was super quiet just looking around and then fell asleep quickly in the carrier.
In general has a good mood, screeches, smiles and is just generally very jolly.
Made strange a couple of times at the end of the month (once when visiting my colleague and once with someone else). Likes being with mommy the most and when I'm not around will often search for me.
Shows no interest in solids whatsoever.
Likes: his chewing toys, lights, cats and most of all, his big sister. He just looks up to her with an amused look the whole time :-)
Feeding
Begin of the month upped his formula intake to about 600 ml a day. Needs supplement at night as well (mostly). I increased his bottles steadily to 180+6 (doesn´t finish it all) and some days he has up to 800 ml a day.
Does not want to take the bottle from dad mostly, when I'm there, it goes better.
Breastfeeding was going well at the beginning of the month, but sadly when he had a cold with fever and wheezing, it was harder to breastfeed for him and since then, week 21 it has been getting harder and harder to latch him and breastfeeding has gone down to 2 times a day from the regular 5 or so times. I pump the rest of the time (he gets about 150 ml breastmilk a day, the rest is formula). This is very hard emotionally but I try to enjoy every time I do breastfeed and think that fed is best and he has done so well already.
Sleeping
Just a couple of days after turning 4 months old, he went over to 3 nap schedule. Way easier to handle and plan!
Sleeps in his room since 4 mo and couple of days.
26-3 slept 8h45 min in a row! That was a fluke sadly, has slept 6-7 h couple times as well.
I'm giving a dreamfeed now around 11 pm and he will usually sleep 4-5 h after that. Between 7 pm and 7 am has usually 2 wakeups (including the dreamfeed)
It is getting a little bit easier to bridge him from one sleep cycle to another with giving the paci or patting him to sleep. Responds better to patting to sleep.
Looks like reliance on the paci is increasing though.
Has slept in the moving carriage couple times for 1-2 h, but often sadly still 30-45 min and then needs to be put in the carrier to make him sleep longer. I'm sad that he is not sleeping in a standing carriage like he used to until 2,5 months
Trouble is that in the morning he wakes to now frequently and needs a lot of assistance to sleep after 6 am. I aim for 6:30 wakeup as the earliest.
Sleeps 14 h a day in average, 10 of these at night. On good days he is sleeping is 15 h a day.
Less false starts but they are still there. Can usually get him back with paci or patting to sleep
We are doing Fuss It Out before nighttime, he has succeeded falling asleep on his own for 2 times (one after a trip day and one after swimming day).
Wake windows are 1,75h (after morning wakeup) - 2h - 2h - 2h to 2,5 h (before nighttime).
He has an established bedtime routine now: topup feed, sleeping bag on, read a story, good night song, white noise on, lights out and leave
General
We started using washable diapers finally.
I need to return to work in 1,5 weeks, which seems very hard at the moment as I don't want to leave him behind. I feel sad that I can't take another 6 months or so with him, as this period is just so lovely... His grandparents from Canada will come to care for him and the big sis until holidays and he will attend daycare in August at the age of 10 months.
