Costs of a toddler from 12 months to 18 months

Baby Steps and Finance

As I have done previously (see this and this post), I will be writing honestly, what we have been spending on little M during the last 6 months.

To start off, we made one big purchase - a car seat for Estonia, we got Axkid Minikid 2 seat that should get us through until 6 years (I hope it will because we did spend 300 euros on it!).

This will be not included in the review, as this is a one-time purchase.

Together with all the general costs (and excluding the daycare fee), we spent 286 euros per month. Versus the 246 euros for 6 to 12 months and 215 euros from 0 to 6 months, it has been quite a bit of an increase.

So, what did we spend the most on?

  1. Clothes - yet again... As you can see, my goal of spending under 50 euros per month on clothes has failed and I spent almost 50 euros more per month. In the summer, I got her a big bag of comfy daycare clothes from Estonian companies, but I also purchased some things new from the same places. Not to count some shoes, boots, a sweater and new undershirts... At least I can say that I sold a bunch of her woollen clothes for 200 euros last month... Shall we say that the new goal should be staying under 80 euros per month for the next half a year?

  2. Books - this time I spent 32 euros per month on her books, last half a year it was 40 euros. Books are a joy and a fortune to have, so this is, in my opinion, not a category I should be saving on.

  3. Toys - there have been quite many open-ended (wooden) toys arriving at our house, mostly second hand. Next to that, I have a love for realistic animal figures and have bought her about 6 of them. I think that for toys, it is important that they are safe and good-quality, so I think it would be good to not spend more than 25-30 euros per month, but not more saving is needed from this.

  4. Miscellaneous - no idea here...

  5. Activities - 19 euros per month was spent on M's dance class. No regret.

  6. Furniture - little M got some new shelves, a little table and chairs.

  7. Documents - a new passport.

  8. Art&crafts - we are trying to do more art activities at home and this comes with a cost :-)

  9. Diapers - we have bought diaper liners once and gotten 1 package of disposable diapers. Washable diapers are really paying off in cost now.

  10. Food - some snacks and baby food (that she doesn't eat usually...).

  11. Memories - some pictures were printed out.

We will see what the upcoming 6 months will bring!
